  • Bobby Mitchell traded to the Redskins before the season begins for the Redskins #1 draft pick Ernie Davis. However, Ernie Davis is unable to play because of a terminal illness
  • Milt Plum traded to the Detroit Lions for Jim Ninowski before the season begins
  • Jim Brown quietly plays the season with an injury leading to his first season since his 12-game rookie year without gaining 1000 yards (Brown actually went over the 1000 yard mark but was tackled for a loss at the end of the final regular season game
  • Head Coach and Founder of the Cleveland Browns Paul Brown is fired by new owner Art Modell after the 1962 season
