Cleveland Browns 1952 Bowman Football Cards
(Complete Set)

Early 1950s Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns 1951 Season

  • Browns lose their first championship game since they were formed in 1946
  • Horace Gillom leads the NFL with a punting average of 45.5 yards
  • On November 25, 1951 in a game against the Chicago Bears and in which the officials call 21 penalties against the Browns for 299 yards, Dub Jones ties Ernie Nevers 22-year old record by scoring 6 touchdowns (4 rushing, 2 receiving) in a 42-21 victory. The record sixth touchdown comes after Paul Brown sends in a play that did not involve Jones. In the huddle left guard Abe Gibron tells Graham to change Brown's play call (which is always a dangerous thing for Graham to do especially if his audible fails) and throw a pass to Jones. Graham agrees and throws a 43 yard touchdown pass to Jones, the record-tying sixth
  • Rookie cornerback and future Hall of Fame coach Don Shula has 4 interceptions
  • The 1952 Bowman Card set contains the only football card of Paul Brown while he was coaching the Browns other than the Topps team photo football cards issued beginning in 1956
