Abortion

I believe the greatest evil facing our culture today is abortion. The wholesale slaughter of unborn babies is a grievous sin and abomination to God who is the Giver of life. According to the National Right to Life organization (NRTL) there have been over 43,000,000 lives extinguished in America through abortions since it was legalized in 1973. That is one-seventh of the current population of the United States!

The tragic part about abortion is not just the unborn victim but also the mother who makes the decision to abort her baby. The father can also be a victim if he doesn't want the mother to have an abortion. The problem is that the abortion industry does a booming business. Cybercast News Service at CNSNEWS.COM states that according to Planned Parenthood's 2002-2003 annual report, their facilities performed over 227,000 abortions in 2002. This same report states that this non-profit organization made a profit of $36,600,000 in 2002!

There are some very insightful verses in the bible which illustrate why you should oppose abortion.

Jeremiah 1:4-5 - "Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, 'BEFORE I formed you in the womb I knew you and BEFORE you were born I consecrated you.'"
Luke 1:41, 44 - "When Elizabeth [the mother of John the Baptist] heard Mary's greeting the baby [John the Baptist] leaped IN HER WOMB and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit." "For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped IN MY WOMB FOR JOY."

There is also a verse in the bible which should put the fear of the LORD GOD in those doctors who perform abortions.

Proverbs 6:16-17 - "There are six things doth the LORD HATE: yea, seven are an abomination to unto Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD."

God, who is a loving God, HATES those who shed innocent blood. Who is more innocent than an unborn baby. Thankfully there have been doctors who have renounced their participation in performing abortions.

I would also warn those people who would harm abortion doctors that you are not doing the will of God. God clearly says in His word, "Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the WRATH OF GOD, for it is written, 'Vengeance is MINE, I will repay' says the LORD" (Romans 12:17, 19).

The NRTL organization posted a survey on their web site with the various reasons women say is the reason they are having an abortion:

Feels unready for responsibility 21%
Feels she can't afford baby 21%
Concern for how baby would change her life 16%
Relationship problem 12%
Feels she isn't mature enough 11%
Has all the children she wants 8%
Other reasons 4-5%

If you have had an abortion and are feeling guilty about it, know two things. The first is that the God of the bible is a forgiving God and will forgive you of all your sins including abortion (1 John 1:9). The second thing is that your unborn baby is with God. In Matthew 18:10 Jesus was speaking of little children when He said, "Do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven."

There are alternatives to abortion. In the area where I live there is an organization called "Pregnancy Decision Health Centers". This organization will give you all the information you need to make a difficult but FULLY-informed decision concerning having an abortion. There are many such organizations around the country. Please don't just rely on organizations that provide abortions to inform you of all the aspects of how an abortion will affect you and your unborn baby.
